Saw this online and wondered if it would work the same in the UK , if it does its a potentially useful piece of information .

This is a very clever idea, a very good tip in most circumstances. However, I cannot see how this would work if you have no signal at all. Your voicemail 'answer' is held on a server, which plays it when you are unavailable. To get the message from you to the server would require a signal. In all other circumstances it should work and could be a lifesaver.

Still, with a little planning a message could be recorded beforehand giving an approximate search area and that would give search and rescue a flying start. There aren’t that many total black spots in the UK but it just happens that we have a couple of them in mid Wales. I like this idea even though I’m a bit of a Luddite when it comes to mobile phones.
