A good friend of mine, 35 year old female, a real country maid, is doing the Adult 10 Tors next month, and is training hard for the gruelling 55 miles over two days.
Earlier in the week, knowing I liked a hike, she invited me to come along for a 17 miler on the moor, part of her prep, today. I jumped at it, I regularly do 10 miles and love a challenge.
BUT, I saw the forecast yesterday and thought “bollox to that”. Rain all day, some heavy, and gusting on the Moor to 40mph. Now please don’t think I am a wimp, ok perhaps a bit, but most of my working life was spent roaming the Dartmoor rivers, plus having to when wearing green as a Reservist in the finest Infantry Regiment the British Army has ever known, also being much nearer to 70 than 60. Been there done it, got loads of tee shirts.
The lady in question is amazingly fit, yes FIT, and she has a goal, for me hiking is now just for fun, getting pi££ed wet through in the first hour, with another 13/14 miles to go………….That ain’t fun!
Right, the missus is doing a “big boy” brunch…….Thats my challenge for the day.

Ps: The daughter of a good friend of mine, just 22 years old, has done the Two Moors Way……Twice! First time in 5 days. Last summer she did it in 4 days, yes….4 days! (Google it) What is even more impressive, carrying all her kit, apart from one stop to pick up more food. It ruined her for a couple of days afterwards, but what an amazing girl she is, she is also one of the loviest girls you could ever wish to meet. Such a delight, her parents are so proud of her.
