Artists Rifle Club

Artists Rifle Club

The Club, possibly the oldest at Bisley, has recently moved to the London and Middlesex Rifle Association (LMRA), which is situated in the centre of Bisley Camp. Through the kind assistance of our host, we are able to offer members the amenities of a modern, spacious clubhouse, including excellent catering and access to shooting records throughout the week. The Artists' Rifle Club retains no connection with the Artists' Rifles Clubhouse, which houses the Mars and Minerva Club.

Shooting Facilities
We are essentially a full-bore club. Most of our members shoot Target Rifle (match grade iron sights) and F Class (telescopic sights and a bipod) at distances between 200 and 1000 yards. There are, however, extensive opportunities to engage in a wide range of other disciplines, including Match Rifle, Practical Rifle, Gallery Rifle, Historic Arms and Small-bore shooting.

We cater for all levels of proficiency in the above disciplines. Our qualified and experienced NRA coaches are able to provide first class teaching, in accordance with the specific requirements of individuals.

Shooting Programme
The club is unique on Bisley camp by providing regular mid-week full-bore shooting opportunities, including markers. The club has one of the most extensive shooting programmes in Bisley. Targets, at distances of between 200 and 1000 yards, are available on weekends and Wednesdays throughout the year.

The club can trace its origins to the 28th London Artists' Rifles Regiment, which was formed in 1908.

At the time of incorporation, it consisted of Painters and Art Students. Soon, however, it attracted men from the leading professions.

Throughout the First World War, the Regiment enjoyed a distinguished history, the most important aspect of which was to provide the majority of officers for all regiments of the British Army.
