In looking for a top quality high-leg style lightweight durable boot that did not have a waterproof membrane lining, yet was tough and supportive enough to use over rough terrain, I found the Alt-Berg Warrior Microlite Original MKII boots, and these have really fitted the bill.
Originally developed for military use, these boots are lightweight but durable, offer excellent ankle support and are very comfortable. The uppers are made from 2.4mm full-grain Anfibio leather with the cuff made from soft tanned, full-grain leather, all top quality European leathers and the lining is a triple laminate Cambrelle (no waterproof layer) which breathes very well and is quick drying.
The inner-layer is Alt-Berg’s own Airgrid Backer 6 for durability and breathability. The polypropylene midsole is graded to give the optimum flex and torsional resistance and is shaped to give toe spring, all this adding up to support and comfort while the outer sole is a Vibram Micro sole which combines excellent grip with shock absorption.
The laces run through an enhanced one pull lacing system of 2 sets of D-rings, 5 sets of metal tubes and 2 sets of hooks for speed and versatility of lacing. These all sit over a padded bellows type tongue. A full rubber rand and toebumper protect the lower edges and front of the boot, while the toe and heel are reinforced for comfort and stability.
At approx 1,500 gms for a size 9 medium fit, the boots are very light for their performance. All in all these boots fit my needs brilliantly!
